Schultz shoots to the top

Bernie Shcultz is having a morning to remember. He just boated a 5-12, and that jumped him up to nearly 16 pounds and the lead. Hitting 16 pounds this early on Lay isn’t unheard of by any means. The surprising part really is that it didn’t happen earlier, if it was going to happen by now.

No one would have been shocked to see an angler bust 15 pounds or so in the first 10 casts this morning. We could have easily written that off to the shad spawn. But the shad spawn should be well over with for the morning by now. So Schultz has figured out some other way to catch a 5-pounder and two 3-pounders in the last 45 minutes. That’s very impressive considering the lull that the majority of the field is fishing through.
