Catastrophic misfortune aside, Bryan Schmitt has likely become the first angler to punch his Championship Sunday ticket. He has the lead with 64-1 on BassTrakk. He’s a threat to underestimate a little, so we’ll guess he’s closer to 65, which is a decent guess at what it will take. As long as he makes it into weigh-in safe with all five fish alive, he’s sitting pretty good already to fish tomorrow.
But Schmitt is not likely all that interested in just fishing tomorrow. He’s won before, multiple times, with two titles coming in the Elites. When a winner gets into this position, his sole focus becomes winning. Schmitt said yesterday on stage that he had made a mistake, leaving some fish to find some fish, and that he was, “angry and going to catch them big tomorrow.” So far, so good on the prediction.
