Pat Schlapper is a “hot mess this morning” as Mark Zona put it. An accurate description of an understandable mood, as the Wisconsin native has boated 19 pounds in less than a half hour.
Zona alluded to the presence of a shad spawn this morning, something we’ve been on the lookout for. There’s no other good explanation for the number of big bass Schlapper has found grouped up. When shad spawn, they do so by the thousands, and they’re completely consumed by the process. Their lack of regard for the imposing threat of big bass lurking makes them easy pickings for hungry pre- and post-spawn bass.
