The 2023 Folds of Honor Bassmaster Elite at Sabine River is now underway. Here’s what to expect. Having visited the Sabine River four times prior to this week, the Elite Series anglers and fans alike are well aware that this is a tough fishery where 2-pounders are at a premium and one wrong move can ruin a whole week.
Anglers will run more miles per pound the next four days than they will any other time of this season. We’ve seen Elite Pros make 200-mile round trip runs up into the Houston area every time we come here, just hoping to reach double digits when they return to the scales. There’s a lot to think about while running a hundred miles before making your first cast.
That’s where this week’s game will be played, between the ears. Anglers will have to make bold and confident decisions, with little to actually build that confidence short of gut instinct and hope. No, there won’t be 20- pound bags and a chance to break a hundred, but for a true fan of the sport, this will be a fun one to watch. It’s going to be a grind. But the cream always rises to the top.
