Matt Robertson just boated the current Phoenix Boats Big Bass leader, an 8-pounder. And he caught it on a topwater to boot.
Shane LeHew has gone on a run in the last 30 minutes, catching close to a 3- pounder and then backing it up with a 4. He has also recently weighed a fish that he caught earlier, and at the time estimated at 4 pounds. It was actually over 5. He’s unofficially in 11th at the moment with an estimated 17-12. Likely closer to 19 pounds and 5th taking into consideration his earlier miscalculation.
LeHew is targeting two schools of shallow fish, having to resort to a wacky rig due to the slick calm conditions. He made the remark that there were enough big fish on this spot to win the tournament, but he didn’t know if he’d be able to get them to bite.
“I’m honestly getting a little lucky catching these,” LeHew stated after putting the second quality fish in the boat on his wacky rig. Dozens of fish followed the first of these two bass to the boat. He’s dialing something in, just needs a little more luck to get them in the boat.
