Robertson just keeps catching them

Matt Robertson now has over 25 pounds, with a limit of cookie-cutter 5-pounders. Not much by way of the water to actually report on how Robertson is catching them. But the Kentucky native is a self-proclaimed spinning pole hater. So we can almost certainly rule out the wacky rig that’s so effective here around cypress trees.

Robertson loves a big bait. Glide baits and swimbaits are among his favorite offerings. It was assumed by many, myself included, that big baits garnered him the lead last week on Day 1 of the Lake Murray Elite. However as it turned out, Robertson had caught all his fish on the Berkley Cane Walker on Day 1, a pencil popper topwater.

Though the Cane Walker is a large topwater, measuring 5 inches, it’s not what most of us think about when we hear “big bait”. We’re thinking glide baits, big swimbaits and large wake baits. Today, it likely is the big bait deal. Or, at least that’s the hope.
