Jay Przekurat is currently in the lead according to BassTrakk, with Chris Johnston right on his tail. But it’s this time of day that the leaderboard can be a little misleading. An angler may have 18-pounds without a bass over 4-pounds in the bag. That means they don’t realistically have a keeper in the boat yet if they plan to be near the top of the of the leaderboard when the scales close today.
So let’s look at who is in the best position at this point.
Przekurat only has 17-12 in the well today. But he does have a 4-8 and a 4-12 in his bag, which means he is in great position. With a 2-8 and 2-12 in the livewell, he has lots of room to grow with each 4-pound plus bite.
Chris Johnston is in pretty good shape as well, with two fish weighing 4-8 and 4-0 in the boat. But he still sits 9-ounces back of Przekurat with two heavy 3s rounding out his limit. So a 4-pounder for Przekurat would shoot him up a pound and a half while the same fish for Johnston wouldn’t quite be enough to overtake Przekurat where he currently sits.
Stetson Blaylock is in a similar position in 3rd, with his largest fish weighing 4-6 and his smallest at 3-6. This means he’ll need some really big bites to keep moving up, where again just a 3-pounder would extend Przekurat’s lead.
More of the same for Hackney, Cory Johnston, Walters, Felix, Robertson and Wendlandt as we continue to make our way down the top 10. All these anglers have those “average” fish around 4-pounds filling their live wells.
It’s not until we get all the way back to 10th place angler Jason Christie that we start to see some real potential. With a 5-0 and a 4-12, Christie is poised to shoot up the leaderboard and challenge the lead. With just two more big bites, Christie could cull a couple 3-pounders and jump all the way into first.
