Przekurat in the zone

About six weeks ago, Jay Przekurat hoisted his first blue trophy overhead after weighing an amazing 102- pounds, 9- ounces of smallmouth on the St Lawrence River.

Yesterday, Przekurat officially sealed the deal and became the 2022 Falcon Rods Bassmaster Rookie of the Year.

It appears as though Przekurat isn’t yet satisfied though, making a run this week at winning the final stop of the Elite Series as well. Przekurat has steadily clawed his way up the leaderboard throughout this event, sitting in 33rd after Day 1, 12th after Day 2 and in 7th currently according to BassTrakk.

With a near 5-pound deficit to leader Chris Johnston, it may seem like Przekurat doesn’t have that realistic of a shot. But the 23-year-old former Elite Series Champion has plenty of time to cull a couple of 2-pounders today to narrow that gap. And then a 15- pound bag tomorrow would give him a legitimate shot at this thing.

Some scoff at momentum being a thing in bass fishing. Hard to look into the eyes of a confident angler who’s catching them and not think there’s a little something to getting on a role.

Jay Przekurat is like butter right now, he’s so on a roll. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
