Vibrating jigs, swim jigs, Carolina rigs, wakebaits, Spooks, frogs, toads, Ned rigs, punching and cranking have all caught fish on the Mississippi River this week— most have produced in the first two hours here on the final day.
What a fun way to end the season, with a river full of fish where the anglers have been able to catch them doing just about anything they wanted to do.
Looking at the leaderboard a quarter of the way through Championship Monday, Chris Johnston holds a one-pound lead over Keith Combs currently. This duo started the day in the same position, but Combs has cut into Johnston’s lead a little. Bryan Schmitt is also keeping pace, locked into where he started the day in third place with 12- pounds in the boat.
No real big movers this morning, since the guys that have slid up the leaderboard have less than 10- pounds and the guys that have fallen down aren’t reporting any fish catches yet.
The likelihood that all 10 anglers will have 10- pounds or better today is pretty good. So, until an angler starts to rise above that weight into the 12-pound range and beyond, it’s not likely they’ll stay in their elevated position on the leaderboard for long.
