“Why am I shaking on a 2-pounder,” Palaniuk pondered, as he weighed his first keeper of the morning. “Cause it’s Championship Sunday, and anything can happen on Championship Sunday.”
Palaniuk is having fun this morning, just out there fishing. He lost a bass around 3-pounds on Day 2 as he tried to swing the fish into the boat. He didn’t get rattled though. Instead, he said that’s the kind of stuff that won’t matter at the end of the day if it’s his time to win.
“I was going to swing him, but I just don’t want to do anything dumb today,” said Palaniuk, as leaned over the gunwale to grab a small keeper. Obviously, his day two decision is still on his mind. This a simple illustration of how Palaniuk has been learning as he goes this week, milking the absolute last drop out of the potential of Beeswax Creek.
“I can’t believe I caught a limit back here every day,” Palaniuk said, as he boated his fifth keeper for a limit of around 10 pounds. This bag of fish is massive at the moment though, as his nearest competitor (Jay Przekurat) has a limit of around 12 pounds and still sits 7 pounds back.
The fishing has been extremely tough for the field today, Jason Christie is still without a fish, and Will Davis Jr with one solid 2-pounder. Both anglers are only 10 to 12 pounds back, so an average limit for either would put him right there with Palaniuk. A big one for any of these three would be huge, but the most impactful for Palaniuk who started with a 2-pound lead and already has his limit fillers in the boat.
“Slow and steady, one of them is going to be a big one.”
