New breaks the stalemate, others adding good ones too

The top of the leaderboard was stagnant for hours, but Bryan New finally broke the stalemate. He boated a 3-6 and a 4-1 within 9 minutes of each other, a feat that will be hard to duplicate by any angler here this week. These back-to-back big ones pushed New’s total up to 18 pounds, 13 ounces giving him the unofficial lead on BassTrakk.

The first flight is due in at 3 p.m., less than a half hour from now. Local favorite Will Davis Jr has held his own today, and culled up moments ago again with a 3-pounder. He now sits in fourth with 15-4. Jason Christie and Carl Jocumsen just posted late big ones as well, Christie’s estimated at 3 pounds and Jocumsen’s at 4 even. Both anglers jumped into the Top 10 with these catches. The leaderboard has Jocumsen in 10th with 12-15. Look for the Top 10 cut to land around 14 pounds by the end of weigh-in today. And the 50 cut will likely sit around 11 pounds going into Day 2. This is going to be a tight one.
