“I gotta sloooow down in this shallow stuff,” said Mueller. “It’s hard to do to. But it’s almost like you’re stalking the animal. If you make the wrong step you’ll spook it.”
Mueller has been thinking out loud a lot here on Day 2, a welcomed wealth of knowledge as several of the other anglers on LIVE are silently and singularly focused on staring at their graphs for the next blip on their radar, or anxiously anticipating a blowup on a topwater like Matt Robertson and Mark Menendez.
“If I don’t have to show everything, I’d rather not either. Not on Day 2.”
Mueller wasn’t talking so much about the LIVE audience. He’s given up more goods than most as it pertains to the intricacies of his technique. He was more referring to other anglers on the water, hoping to survive Day 2 without being seen in some places he’s hoping to save for later in the event.
Mueller has been fishing offshore, on shallow flats. But he mentioned earlier in the day that he did locate some productive cypress trees in practice, though he’s uncertain if someone else may have picked the bass off of them in the meantime.
Mueller has just filled his limit with a 3-pounder to move into second with 13-12 on the day.
