The current Top 10 is half predictable, half surprising.
Names like Jeff Gustafson, Chris Johnston and Seth Feider were easy picks on Oahe, and they haven’t disappointed their Fantasy Fishing faithful.
While names like Brad Whately, Caleb Sumrall, Drew Cook and Brandon Card have raised some eyebrows to start this derby. Not that these aren’t solid anglers, it’s just that they’re not the ones many would have predicted atop the leaderboard of a smallmouth tournament in South Dakota, with Cook and Card currently in the top two spots.
Jay Przekurat is another surprising name to pop into the Top 10, currently in 5th. Again, not because Przekurat isn’t a fantastic angler or even that he’s not more than capable of targeting smallmouth. He proved both of those to us a few weeks ago by capturing his first blue trophy on the St Lawrence River. He’s more of a surprise today since it is so hard for a rookie to follow up the kind of event he just had.
The kind of poise it takes to back that performance up with a strong Day 1 at the next event is rare in a 23- year old. But the more we get to know Przekurat, the more we realize he’s not your typical 23- year old. So perhaps his appearance isn’t ad much surprising as it is very impressive.
