“That’s a good one right there boy, stay hooked up,” Will Davis Jr said as he leaned into a solid Coosa River spotted bass. A no doubt anxiety-packed 40 seconds or so later, Davis put a bass near 3 pounds in the boat. He’s up to 8-3 with four fish now, one big bite behind leader Brandon Palaniuk.
Palaniuk had a solid limit, for likely a little more than the 9-2 his estimated weight on BassTrakk shows. He probably needs two more bites of 3 pounds or better to have a good shot at holding on. Davis is almost certainly two big bites away. Jason Christie sits in third, five pounds back with four for 6 pounds, another likely light estimate. After his monstrous Day 3 of 23 pounds, no lead is safe until Christie’s outboard is fired up for the last time today.
With only 10 pounds, 6 ounces separating the Top 10 at the start of the day and the leaders unable to slam the door yet, anyone logistically still has a chance to win. Twenty-three pounds was caught yesterday. If Bryan New comes from 10th and does that today, Palaniuk will need 13 pounds to hold him off. Those between the two need far less to add to the drama of Championship Sunday.
