Mark Menendez had a great Day 1, and a grueling Day 2. He followed up his opening performance of 21-14 with four fish for 9-7 yesterday. This dropped him from sixth to 34th. But the morning has been gone 180 degrees back in the other direction.
Menendez has four fish in the boat for 23 pounds, a 3-8, 6-0, 6-8 and 7-0. The Skeeter/Yamaha pro is one bite away from a 30-pound bag, two bites off 35.
We don’t have a camera with Menendez today, but we do have one with our current leader. Luke Palmer is in the lead, and having an almost identically impressive morning. Palmer has a limit for 23 pounds with two under 3 pounds.
“I don’t know what I’ve got,” said Palmer, as he dug into his livewell to weigh his three biggest bass. The tally looks more like 25 pounds now.
