Chris Johnston is our first angler on Day 2 to really get himself into a good position. Backing up his Day 1 efforts of 18-15 that had him in 7th place, he now has an estimated 17-12 on Day 2 to sit firmly in the lead with an average of over 18-pounds.
Taku Ito is his closest pursuer, roughly 6 pounds back at 30- pounds, 12- ounces for two days thus far. With a 4-8 in his bag though, Ito is realistically within two good bites of being the second angler to really lock into the top of the leaderboard.
Behind these two, we get into the anglers that have posted the inconsistent performances we expected throughout Days 1 and 2. Day 1 leader Brandon Card sits in 3rd for instance, with only 8-pounds on Day 2. While Lee Livesay has reversed Card’s performance, with a far better showing here on Day 2 and 18-10 in the boat this morning, the largest bag of the day so far to the best of our knowledge.
We’ll likely see a lot more of the flip-flop guys in the top 10 and the end of the day than we’ll see guys averaging steady bags, like Johnston has and Ito is on pace to. That’s simply the nature of the beast and what we expected to see when anglers are forced to chase these smallmouth that are relating to nomadic baitfish.
