Johnston emerges down the home stretch

As we pass the midway point here on Championship Sunday, it’s no surprise to see Chris Johnston slip into the lead on BassTrakk.

Johnston has had a strong morning, with a 3-4, 3-12 and 4-0 to show for his efforts. Keeping in mind Johnston has a tendency to underestimate his bass a bit and that two of his five fish weigh less than 3-pounds, Johnston is in good position to really make a run at this thing with a couple big culls.

Day 3 leader Austin Felix lags a little behind, currently in second with 11-8 compared to Johnston’s 16-6 on the day. The biggest thing working in Felix’s favor though, the near 4-pound lead he had on Johnston going into the day.

That’s a big lead, but certainly not insurmountable, as Johnston has already proven this morning. Still, a 3-pounder means ounces for Johnston’s bottom line right now, and pounds for Felix’s with a tiny 1-4 in his bag.

A lot still up in the air here on Oahe. Going to be a close one til the end it seems.
