Carl Jocumsen has been nursing his last green pumpkin/blue flake X-Zone Mega Swammer all morning. He only has two fish in the well, but they average 5 pounds.
Jocumsen is using a Mega Swammer to trail his 1/2-ounce Molix swim jig. He has plenty of green pumpkin Swammers and, “They’ll bite it too.” But he has unparalleled confidence in his last swimbait of this color. And when you’re only getting a bite every couple hours, confidence is critical. So Jocumsen continues to apply the superglue for now.
Another thing to note, Jocumsen wasn’t getting many bites early in the tournament and then shifted from a 3/8- to 1/2- ounce swim jig midway through Day 2. He accredited this subtle change to the resulting 24 pounds, 13 ounces he had on the day and the 23 pounds, 6 ounces he caught on Day 3.
This move may not seem like much to most, but one of the best fishermen in the world said that the added thump of the tail as this heavier jig drops into the holes is what is triggering the big females to bite. Hard to argue with the success he’s having.
