And we’re back! The 2023 Bassmaster Elite Series has begun. The 104 Elite Series anglers have been chomping at the bit these last few weeks, as they prepared to head South and start the season on Lake Okeechobee. Now, after three official practice days and a mandatory off day yesterday, these anglers head out onto the Big O fairly uncertain as to what they’ll find.
Okeechobee is notorious for throwing curveballs. Anglers, who no doubt felt confident heading out this morning, will be fishing for ghosts that have vacated the areas they found. And then there are the guys who think they’re on 12- pounds, who will pull up and be pleasantly surprised by a school of big females that have pushed into their areas.
With a warming trend in full swing, a cold front coming in a couple of days, and the winds predicted to shift regularly this week, the bass are on the move and the fishable water will change daily. Whoever puts the pieces together this week will have to be flexible and bend to Okeechobee’s will. This is going to be a fun one to watch.
