Hackney’s bonefish tactic

Greg Hackney is beginning his day “blind casting” in his chosen area, per the plan for the day.

The reason? He is awaiting the sun to rise higher that illuminates the clear water and shallow bottom where he will later cast to smallmouth roaming on the flat. Call it the smallmouth equivalent of how saltwater anglers sight fish and cast to bonefish cruising on the shallow flats of the Bahamas and elsewhere in the Caribbean.

That salty tactic proved successful yesterday, as Hackney used it to weigh 24 pounds, 4 ounces. BassTrakk shows him with 2 smallies in the livewell for 8 pounds.
