Hackney crawling, Cifuentes in full sprint

Greg Hackney has had a slow start to Day 3. He just picked this 4-pounder off a bed moments ago though to get his day started. It’s hard for the anglers to see the bedding bass this morning with heavy cloud cover. Just seconds before Hackney set the hook on this one, he had his spare hand cupped around the side of his eye and said, “See, right now I can’t even see if she’s in there.” Then he dropped his hand back to his rod and set the hook. In there she indeed was. Hackney has spotted two more bedding bass just feet away from where he’s polled down currently. His morning may be picking up.

But while Hackney is crawling this morning, Day 2 leader Joey Cifuentes is already sprinting. He has 16 pounds, 8 ounces in the boat early fishing his standing timber… in adverse conditions with all this cloud cover. When the sun pops out later today, Cifuentes may very well already be out of reach with his best fishing still in front of him.
