Seth Feider has had a great half-hour flurry, producing a 3-6 and 5-0 in 24 minutes. The latter is the Phoenix Boats Big Bass leader at the moment and anchors his 12-12 bag. With three fish weighing 2 pounds or less, Feider is in a fantastic position and has likely locked himself into Championship Sunday. He’s averaging over 14 pounds per day, the mark set by many at the start of this event to make the Top 10.
Brandon Palaniuk and Will David Jr started the day in first and second, and they’re hanging in behind Feider for the moment. Palaniuk has a tiny limit and has slipped to third, while Davis is in a better position with three for 7-4 and sitting in second. Davis also said earlier that anything before 11 a.m. is a bonus for him, as he was waiting for the water to turn on beneath Logan Martin Dam.
While writing this, Palaniuk just boated a solid fish in the 2- and 1/2-pound range, culling up a little. The potential is there for Palaniuk to catch a big one for sure, as he’s done multiple times in the last few days. But relying heavily on the shallow and limited waters behind Beeswax Creek bridge, the chances for Davis’s area to reload are astronomically better than Palaniuks.
“I’ve caught seven 6-pounders on Lay,” Davis said. Those seven he is referring to were all spotted bass, not the total number of 6-pounders he’s caught on Lay including largemouth. It’s highly likely that most, if not all of those 6-pound spots came under the dam where he’s fishing now. It’s hard to bet against BP, but it’s hard to bet against Davis too right now. And the odds are certainly in the Alabama rookie‘s favor.
