We have caught up with Bob Downey, who has run down the lake after catching 15-14 according to BassTrakk, which has him in 9th unofficially. Downey entered Saturday in 43rd with 23-9 total. He caught over 15 pounds on the first day but only managed to catch 8-5 yesterday.
“I’m off to a good start. Better than yesterday,” Downey said. He has moved to an area that is also occupied by Brad Whatley, who landed a big smallmouth as we pulled up. Downey has worked through a couple different rods. He is casting out and working the bait back slowly.
Conditions on Lake Oahe are significantly different than the first two days. The wind has cut down drastically, causing only a light chop in some areas. The day started with a decent amount of fog, which has since lifted and given way to partly cloudy skies. Downey’s plan is to move down lake even more as the day goes on.
