And we’re back. Day 2 of the SiteOne Bassmaster Elite at Lake Okeechobee was nothing short of spectacular. Despite dock talk of poor fishing during practice, the Big O has shown out the last two days. Brandon Cobb took over the VMC Monster Bag for the week yesterday with his 32-pound, 15-ounce heavy-weight stringer, eclipsing Bernie Shultz’s Day 1 bag of 28 pounds, 11 ounces.
Heading out onto the water, Tyler Rivet gets started early with one close to 4 pounds. “They’re gonna eat today. They’re gonna eat all day.”
Rivet is fishing in the Kissimmee River with his head down looking at his forward-facing sonar. This has made for boring footage the past couple of years, but considering its extreme irregularity here, it’s been amazing to watch Rivet dial something in on Okeechobee that we never thought we’d see.
Rivet has used a jerkbait as his primary weapon, watching each fish stalk his bait on his graph. His first fish of the morning followed his bait for nearly a minute before he got it to bite.
“I don’t even want to clear my scale from yesterday,” remarked Rivet, referring to his 29-pound, 2-ounce bag from Day 2.
“My hands are already bleeding. I like it,” Rivet said as he put his first fish in the well.
Going to be a fun day to watch some bass fishing.
