Day 2 dawns with a rookie out front

Will Davis Jr could not have scripted this kind of a start to his Elite Series career. He was in the conversation from the start of the season opener last week, the 2023 SiteOne Bassmaster Elite on Lake Okeechobee. He inevitably finished that event in 14th

Davis rolls out this morning with the lead of the Gamakatsu Bassmaster Elite at Lake Seminole. Davis’s father, who obviously bares the same name, started a bait company years ago. The Davis Bait Company makes one of the finest swim jigs on the market. Davis Jr grew up with his dad’s swim jig in his hand learning to fish on the Coosa River, which is covered with shoreline grass.

There’s no doubt that this rich history of shallow power fishing in thick vegetation has played a big role in the Elite Series Rookie’s success these first five days of his professional career. But no matter how prepared you are, there’s has to be something bigger at work to have this kind of story book start. The only way it could get better for the Day 1 leader, is if he’s the Day 4 leader holding his first blue trophy high overhead.

We’ll see if Davis can hold off the competition. It will be a tall task with so much changing here by the hour. But Davis has already let the fishing world know one thing, he’s ready to catch big bass, on the biggest stage to fulfill his big dreams.
