Brandon Card holds the lead with 21-pounds, 10-ounces headed out on Day 2 of the Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite on Lake Oahe. Progressive Angler of the Year leader Brandon Palaniuk finished Day 1 in 48th, gaining ground on David Mullins and John Cox.
Day 1 was a wild one. Some of us, myself included, bought into the practice poor mouthing from our Elite Series anglers. The general consensus after three days of practice on Oahe, this was going to be a brutally tough one.
Looking back to our last visit here in 2018, the angler in 47th place after Day 1 had 10-10. After yesterday, Matt Arey sat in 47th with 12-2. So the fishing is slightly better than it was in 2018 at least.
Perhaps the wildest story coming out of yesterday, Brandon Palaniuk stumped his toe hard, uncharacteristically coming in one fish shy of a limit with four fish for 11-15, sitting one spot outside the Day 3 cutline. But despite his tough day on the water, he actually gained ground on David Mullins and John Cox, finishing the day in 63rd and 70th respectively.
The drama is building in the AOY race for sure,
