Jason Christie was concerned yesterday about today’s weather forecast – clear skies, no wind, and an abrupt change from the previous three. However, that anxiety vanished in the first two hours today. “I’ve never felt so good about a day as I do right now,” said Christie, after landing his 4th keeper of the day. “I may not get another bite, You’ve just got to slow down. We’re at that time of the year where these fish are starving for sunshine.” Shortly after saying that, he got another bite. He’s now got a limit weighing about 12 pounds.
The starving for sunshine bass are going to get plenty of it today as the temperature is predicted to rise to about 70 degrees. It was 30 degrees at takeoff. Coming off a Bassmaster Classic victory followed by a 93rd-place/next-to-last finish at Santee Cooper, Christie is a man on a mission. He’s got a history of quick recoveries after a bad tournament. In 2018, Christie had three finishes worse than his 93rd at Santee Cooper. Following a 97th-place finish at Grand Lake, he was 4th at Kentucky Lake. Following a 94th at the Sabine River, he was 17th at La Crosse, Wis., on the Mississippi River. Following a 101st at the St. Lawrence River, he was 5th in the AOY Championship at Georgia’s Lake Chatuge. He finished 34th in the Angler of the Year standings that season.
