John Cox rallied on Day 2 to start Saturday in 10th place. Jake Whitaker also had a big Day 2, moving from 16th to 6th. The two are fishing very different patterns however. No surprise, John Cox is looking for them and then looking at them, picking his bass off bed. Whitaker has fished one point both days for all 41 pounds, 4 ounces of his two-day total. Whitaker’s spot is exposed and getting hammered by a south wind this morning, one that’s only expected to increase. Optimism is key to confidence for all anglers, Whitaker is confident that the wind will be okay as long as the sun pops out.
Cox has been able to escape the wind so far, fishing in protected areas. The sun will only help him as well, making it much easier to see the bass on bed and those cruising the shallows in the immediate pre- and post-spawn phases. The wind will derail a lot of anglers today though, and make hay for many others. It’s the wild card we’ve been waiting for all week.
