Championship Sunday begins. We saw another amazing day of fishing yesterday on the St Lawrence. An astonishing 44 of 47 anglers that competed the first three days averaged over 20-pounds a day (including Jamie Hartman who registered 59-5 officially but suffered an 8-minute/8-pound late penalty).
It took an average of over 23- and 1/2- pounds to make the final day top 10 cut. And we again saw multiple 27-pound bags of smallmouth brought to the scales.
Day 3 leader Jay Przekurat heads into the final day with an eye-popping 77-pounds and an ounce of smallmouth for three days, well on his way to hitting the 100-pound mark and being the first angler to ever enter the Bassmaster Elite Series Century Club with all smallmouth.
With 27-15 being the largest bag we’ve seen this week, there are 6 anglers in all with a viable shot to make it to 100-pounds today. Chris Zaldain brings up the rear of that convoy with 72-7, and his shot is definitely realistic considering he had 27-4 yesterday himself.
The weather is perfect again for anglers to move around. We have a stacked and star-studded final day field. Buckle up, it’s going to be an exciting Sunday.
