Drew Cook and Drew Benton both call Seminole their home lake. Cook sits in 4th this morning, with a quick limit for 12 pounds. But Benton is the first Drew to deliver a real blow today. After a slow start, the typically cool-headed Benton was starting to get rattled a bit. Fishing an event this big on a lake where you know so much can spin out the best in the sport in a hurry. Benton wasn’t there yet, but his mind was starting to race no doubt.
However, the storm of second-guessing just hit a lull for Beton as he boated a couple of solid males and then added a 6- pound female off a bed he was blind fishing. Benton found this bass during practice and chose to stay back off the bed this morning to try not to spook her. He quickly caught the 2 and ½ pound male and then proceeded to hook up with the 6- pound female a few casts later. That fish is tied for the Phoenix Boats Big Bass so far, with Mike Iaconelli and John Sokup each having a bass in the box weighing 6 pounds as well. Benton currently sits in 2nd thanks to this flurry, with nearly 17 pounds.
