The boats are piled up on one another, but Brandon Lester and Scott Martin are relatively alone. This has given both of them the luxury of sitting all but still and picking their respective areas apart.
Not having other boats crowding and rushing these two is a major advantage. Most of these guys like to get to an area and fish their way in, meaning start a little farther out and ease towards the water they think we’ll be the most productive. In a spawning situation like this, the anglers will pickup a few pre-spawn and post-spawn fish along the way to the spawning flat. And being stealthy and taking it slow keeps them from spooking these sometimes-finicky Florida strain bass. It keeps the water clean too.
This is not a luxury many anglers have on Okeechobee this week, as they sit down on a spot and then have to hurriedly make their way to the best parts to keep an incoming competitor from beating them to it.
Lester and Martin have the advantage for now for sure, and it’s paying off handsomely.
