Third, 4th, 6th, 7th and 20th. First, 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 19th. These are the best five finishes of two the two Elite anglers that will probably not with the Progressive Angler of the Year and Dakota Lithium Angler of the Year races. I said will “not”. Making sure you caught that. These are ridiculous numbers to lose either of these races with.
But Kyle Welcher and Joey Cifuentes III have bested Brandon Cobb’s and Kyoya Fujita’s year-long campaigns just slightly. Fujita (in 4th on BassTrakk) still has a slim shot at taking down Cifuentes (who sits in 18th). This is amazing considering the Cowboy won two Elite titles in this, his rookie season. And even though Cobb sits in 15th in the standings today, Welcher came in with the AOY lead and sits in 1st in this event. Unbelievable effort by Cobb to slip his foot in the door, complete disregard by Welcher in slamming it shut.
Four boat rides and perhaps another big bite or two are all that’s left to decide these races. Thanks for giving us something fun to cover guys, and thanks for giving the fans something suspenseful to watch. Kudos on four jobs masterfully done.
