Anglers making moves, Palaniuk doing his thing

The slow grind is still on for the Elite Series field. Bernie Schultz and Will Davis Jr are inching towards 13 pounds, and sitting in second and third respectively. Brandon Palaniuk still out front though, and fishing in his own little world. Somehow Palaniuk has one of the most popular holes on the lake to himself. And he’s catching fishing on back-to-back casts, while others are struggling all over the lake to get bit.

Palaniuk is using his electronics to target bass relating to bream beds now. His game plan has evolved from Day 1 to Day 2 a bit. Yesterday he was looking at bass that were on beds and cruising the shallows, able to see most of the fish he caught with his eyes. Today, he’s seeing them more with his electronics, and then pitching a dropshot to them. He’s sitting pretty right now with 13-8 and a strong 3 pound, 6 ounce lead over Schultz.

Several of the other anglers who faired well on Day 1 are hanging in on Day 2, like Bryan New and Gary Clouse. While others like Alex Redwine and Caleb Sumrall are rallying, with two of the other biggest bags of the day weighing an estimated 14-3 and 13-4. Bryan New is perhaps in the best position to make a run at Palaniuk. He sits in fifth with just two fish for 7-10, and only 6-9 off the lead. Three 2-pounders and he’ll be all up in Palaniuk’s business.
