Strong storms passed through La Crosse this morning, which lead B.A.S.S. officials to delay takeoff about 50 minutes.
This near hour-long delay wouldn’t be as impactful on a place like Hartwell or Lanier, where the anglers could easily run to their spots and just pickup on the day.
But here on the Mississippi, where there are locks and a labyrinth of back waters to contend with, the anglers were no doubt calculating quite a bit as they sought shelter from the storms.
It’s not only the time crunch of a shortened day either. Several anglers arrived to their starting spots yesterday just to find them blown out and muddy from the storms that had come through on the eve of Elite stop number 9.
Considering anglers had to run over shallow sandbars, idle long stretches and run miles and miles out of their way to get to these places, it was more than a bit frustrating to find muddy water where they had been fishing super clear conditions.
Concerns of the same happening again as a result of this morning’s storm has to be on the forefront of half the field’s minds.
We’ll know shortly who among the top guys will have to backup and punt on plan A. The fishing starts now.
