A lot of the focus has been on Scott Martin this morning, and understandly so. In an effort to spread some love around, I just took a glance at the BassTrakk unofficial leaderboard. That did not help.
Martin, with 20-8, currently has nearly twice the weight of his traveling companion Matt Arey, who sits in 6th with 10-14. That’s how dominant his morning has been here on day one of the SiteOne Bassmaster Elite at Lake Okeechobee.
Certainly there will be a few more anglers close to or above the 20- pound mark by the end of the day. But Martin isn’t done yet either. He’s lost a couple good fish too this morning, and could have closer to 25- pounds had he put those in the boat. He’s done all of his damage in one little area that he’s had all to himself. He will likely vacte his “hidey hole” soon if he can catch another big one or two.
But then Martin will be on the loose, looking for one big bite at random to really build his bag. There’s likely no one else on Okeechobee this week more capable of doing this. Martin is not done yet.
