A variety of patterns playing

Current leader Bryan New has caught the majority of his Day 3 weight on a vibrating jig. He has around 15- pounds, not even halfway through the day.

New has been making repetitive casts to an exact spot. The same has been the case for Matt Arey and other anglers this morning.

Each of these guys have aggressively fished their spots with a vibrating jig, swim jig or topwater, and then slowed down and drained the hole dry dragging a soft plastic slowly.

Then there are guys like Drew Benton and Brandon Palaniuk, who have done their damage this morning fishing small areas. Benton has caught the majority of this 12-13 sitting below the Onalaska Dam fishing a couple current seams, while Palaniuk anchored down on a shallow flat casting in all directions as bass busted around his boat.

Then there are a few guys like Gerald Swindle, who have spent a good bit of his time covering water, fishing stretches of shallow vegetation.

There are all sorts of ways to catch them on the Mississippi River right now. The dominant pattern has certainly been poling down and casting to one spot, taking advantage of a pile of fish in a small area.

But that’s not the only way to catch them this week, what a fun tournament to watch.
