Day 1 leader Matt Robertson has had a pretty slow morning, with only one small keeper in the boat. He’s fishing a Berkley Cane Walker shallow along the banks and over points and humps.
He just made a quick move to a spot close to where David Fritts was fishing. It wasn’t an encroachment really, as Fritts is doing his usual cranking a little deeper and Robertson is burning his topwater shallow. The two talked a bit, while Fritts reeled in one close to 3-pounds.
“Don’t make me get out my Frittside,” Robertson said, throwing a little humor and tipping his hat in the direction of one of the all-time cranking greats and Bass Fishing Hall of Fame member.
Fritts then did something that’s just unheard of this day and age. Mind you, Robertson again entered the area where Fritts was already fishing. But Fritts offered to back off or move on, to prevent impeding the Day 1 leader‘s chances of winning this event. Robertson quickly shut the idea down. But it was a clear show of respect and etiquette that’s often missing these days. An old school way of doing things. Hats off to Fritts for the gesture.
