Jacob Wheeler described his method of catching a sixth-place bag of 17-4 yesterday as “hodge-podging” – fishing a little bit of everything – shallow, deep and in-between. Apparently, he’s doing the same today and has hodge-podged into the lead.
You can look at Wheeler’s fish catches today, and see he’s been steadily building his 16-4 limit: a 4-1 at 7:19, a 2-6 at 8:14, a 3-10 at 9:35, a 2-7 at 10:27 and a 3-12 at 11:17.
Wheeler said the five fish he weighed yesterday came on five different lures, and he used at least 14 of the 18 rods he had on his boat deck. Wheeler has lots of time to try and coax one of those Lake Travis game-changers, and shed his small fish of 2-6.
