On the Sabine River, a 4-pound bass is a difference-maker, and Greg Vinson has caught one this morning, according to Gettys Brannon. BASSTrakk shows Vinson with two fish totaling 5 pounds, but that big one is equivalent to a 6- or 7-pounder at most Elite Series tournament sites.
Greg Hackney noted yesterday, “It’s kind of a crapshoot. The key deal is going to be getting that big bite. There’s going to be a guy with four of those little bitty ones and a 4- or 5-pounder every day. You can’t target 3-pounders here. You’ve got to fish for bites and hope you can catch a big one.”
Consider it mission accomplished for Vinson on Day 1, provided he can catch three more of “those little bitty ones” and fill out his limit.
