Twenty-two-year-old Elite Series rookie Jay Przekurat came into this event not only leading the rookie of the year standings but also ranked 9th in AOY points. That was partially due to a big Day 2 comeback at Santee Cooper two weeks ago. Przekurat (pronounced “shuh-kur-at”) was 49th after Day 1 at Santee Cooper, then weighed 24-8 on Day 2. He finished 24th there. He was 14th at the Harris Chain and 33rd at the St. Johns River.
The Stevens Point, Wis., native has proven he’s more than capable in southern waters. He’s going to need another big Day 2 today at Chickamauga after starting in 77th place. He weighed only 3 bass yesterday – 8 pounds, 11 ounces. Przekurat has topped that today thanks to this 6 1/2-pounder. He’s got two other keepers for a total of 10-12 at 10 o’clock.
