Pirch loses a nice one

We've been watching Arizona pro Clifford Pirch for about an hour. He has very patiently and slowly worked the same little pair of islands the whole time. When we first arrived Pirch was putting a big salmon into the water that he'd just boated.

Just now though Pirch had a nice bite and worked the fish all the way around the boat. Then he laid flat out on the deck, put his whole rod down into the water as if he were hung up. And sure enough the fish was stuck. When Pirch jumped up and swung his rod in disgust, we knew the fight was over. "There's two big boulders down there the size of a school bus," he said. "The fish dove under one of those rocks."
