The 2022 St. Croix Bassmaster Southern Opens presented by Mossy Oak Fishing points race is coming down to the wire.
Brandon Lester and Joey Cifuentes III entered the tournament tied for first, but after Day 1 at the final event at Lake Hartwell, Cifuentes has taken the lead with 556 points, but Lester is just one point back with 555.
Lester is off to a good start this morning, landing 4 keeper bass in the first hour of fishing. So far it isn’t the size he is looking for, but with a later boat drawn, he will have until 5:15 p.m. to find a limit and then upgrade.
The Tennessee pro has spent the first two hours fishing in an area he believes has been overlooked by other anglers. He is using his forward-facing technology to locate his bass and there doesn’t seem to be a consistent place they are holding.
He has used a combination of a couple different spinning rod techniques to land his keepers thus far.
Once he finishes in this area, he has plenty more to fish.
“I’m running 30 or 40 spots,” Lester said. “This area is getting overlooked so I’m spending more time this here this morning.”
