When the day started, Ed Loughran burned the bank in his first stop with a small crankbait presentation. Up and back he went. Nothing. Loughran moved to his second spot, burning up the bank again. Still nothing.
Then, the Missile Baits Bass Cat Boats Pro picked up an unnamed slower presentation bait and began to work the bank again, targeting specific structure away from the bank. The bites began to present themselves one at a time.
“I guess I just needed to slow down a little,” said Loughran. “The fish will usually tell you what they want. I don’t usually like to fish this slow but we’ve got a limit of 12 pounds or so and we’ve culled a couple of times. I’ll take it.”
The Shimano Spro Pro continues to grind along on this chilly day. With plenty of time to upgrade on his day, Loughran is in an area that he mined for some of his key fish on Day 2.
Loughran admitted to me earlier this morning that he still has over half his areas from practice that he hasn’t touched yet, which means if he can grind his way into Sunday, he will have some fish in reserve.
Loughran, with snowflakes falling, continues to grind and upgrade, showing that sometimes fewer casts mean more bites.
