Steve Kennedy has moved up the Coosa River from us, to the place where he caught the big paddlefish pictured here yesterday.
Kennedy landed the fish because he wanted his crankbait back.
“That was my baby,” he said of the lure.
Paddlefish, also called spoonbills, are plankton feeders that won’t bite a lure. But they congregate below dams each spring, and they get so big it’s hard not to snag one occasionally, even when you’re not trying.
Bobby Lane has moved back into this area near where Kennedy was. He had three fish when he got here. Lane just landed his fourth, which was a good one, maybe 3 pounds. He was in the middle of some flooded trees when he caught it.
