Keep an eye on the cut line

After today's weigh-in, the top 50 pros will get a day off the water Friday, while the other 74 anglers will prepare to compete on Lake Barkley in the Second Chance Tournament. The top 10 at Barkley Friday will be guaranteed a $10,000 check and another day to compete with the top 50 on Kentucky Lake Saturday.

Based on the Day 1 weigh-in, the top 50 cut weight is going to be a big number. Boyd Duckett, Greg Hackney and Skeet Reese were tied for 48th through 50th place yesterday with 17-3. So that means the cut mark will be around 34-6. Sometimes it ends up being a little lower, and sometimes it's a little higher. Based on today's weather, it will probably take more than 34-6 to make the cut. When you've got to catch 10 bass averaging almost 3 1/2 pounds to make the top 50, well, that speaks for itself.

Kentucky Lake and Alabama's Lake Guntersville are always ranked among the top bass lakes in the country, no matter who is doing the rankings. Since the Elite Series visited Guntersville in early April, there are some comparative stats accumulating this week. For instance, 50th place after two days at Guntersville was 34-13.
