Kelley Jaye landed by far his biggest bass of the day shortly after 8 o’clock. It was a 3-pound, 3-ounce largemouth. It feels awkward to think of a 3-pounder as a difference-maker after three days at Mille Lacs Lake, where a 4-pounder was the average fish weighed-in.
But 3- and 4-pounders are game-changers at Pokegama, which has an abundance of 1- to 2-pounders. Compounding the importance of those 3s and 4s is the short time these anglers have to fish each day. Three hours goes by so quickly when you’re accustomed to having at least 8 hours per day.
