Ike, Avena going mano a mano

Mike Iaconelli and Adrian Avena have put on a heated, back-and-forth show in the first 30 minutes today. One man catches a fish, then the other matches it. So far, Iaconelli has been able to slightly expand the 2-pound, 4-ounce lead he started the day with. He has three fish totaling 5-10 and Avena has three weighing 5-3.

Interestingly, Iaconelli is expanding on the clue he picked up in the final minutes yesterday afternoon. When he caught a bass in the pencil reeds on a jig, Iaconelli noted it was important “for more than one reason.” He hadn’t fished that type of cover all day. That bite has transferred from the partly cloudy skies of yesterday afternoon to the heavy overcast and, now, light rain this morning.
