No one on the Elite Series can entertain like Mike Iaconelli. This morning has been another example, and it has included another boat deck handstand, after Iaconelli caught a 2 1/2-pounder.
“When I catch a 4-pounder, I’ll do it again,” he said, after putting his feet back on the boat deck. “Let Kevin VanDam try to do that! Nah, just me.”
Iaconelli was fired up after the 2 1/2-pounder missed, then came back and hit his bait.
“Hey, I’m just catching the breaks today,” Iaconelli said. “Sometimes dumb luck is your friend. They hardly ever come back like that. I can count on one hand the times they’ve come back like that.”
Iaconelli is up to 13-4 today, almost matching the Day 1 big limit of 13-7 posted by Jacob Powroznik. Adrian Avena is catching them too, but Ike’s are bigger, allowing him to maintain an almost 6-pound lead over Avena.
