Bob Downey managed to haul in a decent smallmouth as soon as I pulled up to cover him. Using a light setup, the fight for this fish lasted about 2 full minutes.
Due to constantly fighting the current, smallmouth tend to be strong and aggressive. This makes for a longer and stronger fight with each hook set… especially on a light spinning reel setup.
Downey has 5 fish in the livewell for about 17 pounds. He is throwing a small spybait across shallow flats along Lake Ontario.
