Call it what you want – a coincidence maybe, or synchronicity. It happened like this: B.A.S.S. legend Bill Dance was being interviewed on the “Bassmaster LIVE” set when he was asked who he was picking to win this Classic. He mentioned because of his long association with another B.A.S.S. legend, Roland Martin, he was rooting for Scott Martin.
So who suddenly pops on top of the BassTrakk leaderboard, of course, Scott Martin. Martin started in 21st place after his first day of competition ever in the Bassmaster Classic. At age 46, Martin has already had a legendary career of his own, winning over $3 million on the FLW Tour. Roland Martin qualified for 25 Bassmaster Classics, but winning one escaped his grasp, even though he won nine B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year titles.
Scott weighed 15-9 on Day 1. BassTrakk indicates he’s got a limit weighing 14-14 today for a total 30-7.
“This is a special opportunity for me,” Scott said earlier this week. “When I decided to come over to B.A.S.S., my main objective was to win a Bassmaster Classic. It’s something that eluded my dad for all those years.”
